What does Kariqa do for non-EU producers?
Kariqa gives a producer outside the EU one place to keep its installations, products and verified emissions, and to share them with the EU importers it supplies. Those importers need the figures for their CBAM declarations: without them they have to use the EU's default values, which include a mark-up and usually cost them more.
How are installations and products kept?
You set up your company and its installations once, then add the goods each installation produces, by CN/TARIC code and production year. Everything an importer asks about is then kept in one place, per installation.
How are verified emissions recorded?
You can enter a product's emissions by hand or upload them from a file. Kariqa shows every line before anything is saved, and the report of your accredited CBAM verifier is attached to every product it covers.
For each product you record the direct and indirect emissions, the production route, the specific embedded free allocation (SEFA) that goes with the actual emissions, and the carbon price paid in your country, net of rebates or other compensation, with proof of payment and the certification by an independent person that the CBAM Regulation requires.
How are the figures shared with importers?
Only with the importers you choose. An importer can find your company on Kariqa and send a connection request, or invite you by email, and nothing is shared until you accept.
Once connected, an importer can ask you for verified emissions for a specific CN/TARIC code, with a date to respond by. You accept or decline each request, with a reason when you decline. Your dashboard shows open requests and their dates, your connected importers and the status of your data.
Either side can end a connection at any time. The importer then keeps only a copy of the figures it had already used, and nothing new is shared.
Why does it matter to a producer?
Your verified emissions can lower the CBAM cost of your goods for EU importers, since default values include a mark-up that, for most CBAM goods, increases until 2028. To see what importers ask for and why, read What do non-EU producers need to provide for CBAM?
